I run a Jon & Kate parody blog (and have gotten called a few nasty names myself), and nothing has been as wildly popular as my imagined Duggar/Gosselin wife swap. I too am surprised by the viciousness directed at the Duggars for their choices. They aren't choices I would make for myself but I do respect they are their choices, just as it was the Gosselins' choice not to selectively reduce.

I have watched Jon & Kate plus 8 and all of the Duggar specials....here's my perspective. When I watch the Duggar Family, I'm inspired and stop feeling sorry for myself (heck, I just have 6 kids). When I watch Jon & Kate, I get some practical ideas and can relate to Kate's intensity at times. It's crazy with a house full of personalities! But seeing how 'intesity' looks inspires me to lighten up a bit!

maybe i'm biased because i love jon and kate plus 8, however i hardly ever choose to watch the duggar specials simply because i don't care for their lifestyle. i'm tolerant of the duggars' choices; they can do whatever they want, it's their life. but one thing i will say is that the gosselins take time to get to know their kids' personalities and give them individual attention while it seems that the duggars don't have the time. now i'm all for big families but 20 kids in a span 18 years is a little much, in my opinion.

I like to watch Jon and Kate plus 8, because to me they are a "normal" family. Now not that the Duggar's aren't "normal" per say...but I just can't compare my family to theirs. They are a family of 20 and are debt-free is for one thing amazing! I can just relate more to Kate. I only have 2 young children and am pregnant with my 3rd and I sometimes get stresses. I think both mom's get my praise and admiration as they handle their children and stressors of life way better than I think I would or could in their situation!

It was our list as well as another where the Duggars were discussed, Nicole. On the other list, some of the comments got a bit snide (the hair thing, etc.). I don't recall that happening on our list.

While you may not have six 3-yr-old, you do have a LOT of really little children, including some younger than 3, so I think your job is every bit as hard as Kate Gosselin's -- if not harder, since she's probably compensated pretty well for that TV show and can hire some help.

Lisa,

If a woman is sterile because she was promiscuous and contracted a disease which made her infertile, than no, it's not the tragedy you make it out to be.

If a woman is infertile because she had too many abortions, than it is probably a good thing that her DNA doesn't make it into the gene pool.

The Duggars do strike me as a little "odd" (and I think I am on your email list that discussed this). The Duggars and Gosselins are very different families and I can relate more to the Gosselins (although Kate can be rather annoying LOL). I sometimes tune in just because I, too, have 8 children and like to "compare" (if you want to call it that, I don't have six 3 yr olds and two 7 yr olds). Large families are becoming more and more common and for the most part, everyone is supportive of mine (not that is their business), or at least they don't say anything directly mean to me. It's a shame the horrible things people say about the Duggars and Gosselins. To each his own.

Garth, that is so un-called-for. I agree that some of those comments about the Duggars are really mean, but it's not necessarily infertile women making those comments. Infertility is a tragedy. You should have compassion for women who suffer from this instead of saying hateful things about them.

I really believe the people who have such disdain for the Duggars and Gosselins are women who either:

A. Forgot to reproduce and are now past reproductive age.

B. Incapable of having children due to numerous abortions when they were young or who were sterilized by a venereal disease when they were young.

In the end, the Duggars' and Gosselins' DNA will propagate through the rest of time while the feminists who forgot to breed will have their DNA eradicated from the planet.

And that, my friends, is a good thing.
