When I read this morning’s editorial in the Santa Fe New Mexican, I was treated yet again to a tirade about the Axis of Evil currently occupying the White House. This morning’s dose of Bush-bashing concerned oil:
Bogus baying about “ending dependence on foreign oil” is about all the politically bankrupt party of the president has to offfer the families of this nation it has done so much to ruin.
The editor of the New Mexican has been railing against Bush ever since I moved to Santa Fe and started reading the paper, but the rhetoric has reached new flights of hyperbolic fancy and stridency — nay, shrillness — since day three of the RNC. Looks like Caribou Barbie’s got ‘em running scared.
A comic genius named Dave over at Ace of Spades HQ thinks she’s got the whole DNC running scared, and has come up with a hilarious video parody that made me laugh till I cried.
Warning: NC-17 levels of profanity (it is Ace of Spades, after all) but so funny.

Ms. Russell,
I just found your blog a week ago. Congratulations on it and your excellent coverage and insights on the election.
Your comments are driving a liberal co-worker of mine to drink! I printed out your columns and put them on her desk. She gets so angry that she keeps saying,”I need a drink.”
And you’re right on about the Santa Fe New Mexican, they’ve really gone over-board.
Keep up the good work,
Hector

Posted 14 Sep 2008 at 3:50 pm ¶If one even mildly pays attention to liberal blogs, Hollywood entertainers, etc., one would see that Bush is compared to Hitler constantly.
Posted 14 Sep 2008 at 7:14 pm ¶That says all that needs to be said about modern liberals.
Excellent points B. Did you see how the Santa Fe New Mexican has down-sized over the summer? They just don’t get it. They’ll attack America and her values day in and day out and then sit there, like the village idiot, and wonder why readership is fleeing them like rats from a sinking ship.
I for one could do without that rag in my house, but our daughters read the funnies so who am I to say we should dump that lame excuse for “news”?

From my reading, the demonization (including comps to Hilter) is much more common in conservative circles. When liberals do this they are shouted down by their fellows and pelted with brie rinds and chardonnay corks. When conservatives do it, there’s guffawing and backslaps and a competition to see who can top it.
I’m not reflexively anti-conservatism, as its obvious there is a perfectly valid strain of political thought that goes (or rather, went) by that name. I’m rooting for Obama in the hopes that the current bunch of crooks, idiots, and bottom-feeding hypocrites will get run out of both the Republican party and the conservative think tanks.
We need both principled conservatism and thoughtful liberalism. At this rate in twenty years the “right” will be Obama/Dean and the “left” will be Dennis Kucinich. And nobody wants that.

pshaw. Ok, I have to admit, the “Are you Bob Shrum?” joke made me giggle like a little girl.
Will you marry me?
Oh, and would you mind explaining it to my wife?
kthanxbye!
Posted 15 Sep 2008 at 8:55 pm ¶Bob Shrum. That one sent my husband over the edge too. Which means of course that I can’t marry you.
